“Rehab is training when you’re injured.”
Have you ever had a dissatisfying experience in Physiotherapy? Were you left in a room with a hot pack or a machine, and billed $80 to spend very little time with the Physiotherapist. Did you have a successful rehabilitation?
I became a Physiotherapist with the mission of doing things differently. I have worked in the fields of fitness and Physiotherapy for over 15-years, as well as experienced countless injuries myself from sport, training, and life.
Where I’ve landed with my approach to helping others is to empower the person 100% of the time to get stronger, understand and manage their pain themselves. As a manual therapist, I do believe in facilitating healing with hands-on-techniques, however I know that healing is much more than laying on a table passively. Active rehabilitation and lifestyle changes are what make permanent positive changes in people’s long term health and wellness.
No matter if you are a non-athlete, weekend warrior, or a high performance athlete, I will assess where you are currently, and help you with a personalized, goal oriented plan to help you recover, manage pain, and do what it is you need and love to do.
I do not have a quick fix. As one of my great mentors says, there is a fix—4-6 weeks of consistent work.
At 12-years old, I knew Physiotherapy was the career for me. Since I was very young I developed a passion for movement and sports. It didn’t come easily for me. I had incredible heart and drive; however, I was not born a natural athlete. I had to work very hard at my technique and coordination. I had my share of injuries and experiences in rehab, and although very successful, a very difficult athletic career mentally and physically. I am so grateful for all of those glorious ups and downs, as it has given me the gift of perspective, an invaluable asset when working with people who are injured or in pain.
After nearly 10 years not running due to an injury, I have slowly and steadily worked with and coached myself to achieving lifetime personal bests at every distance, including competing in and winning my first marathon which, even 3 years ago I would have thought was impossible.
I am a transplant from Nova Scotia, with a family who happily calls Kelowna home for over a decade. I spent 5-years in Utah getting educated, and several years pursuing professional road cycling in Ontario and Quebec. When not out running, rock climbing, or training in the gym, I spend most of my time scheming and adventuring all over the West with my husband Parker and our wild family.
